Message from the Edmonton Co-Chairs

Dear Friend of Bone and Joint Health Care,

We are delighted and honored to be co-chairing Music in Motion, a musical concert dedicated to the support and enhancement of bone and joint research and clinical care in Alberta. Proceeds from this year’s musical fundraising events will be used to fund research and clinical care initiatives at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.

In partnership with the Alberta Bone and Joint Institute, our researchers and clinicians are dedicated to improving and enhancing orthopaedic and rehabilitative care of patients—many of whom suffer for decades with diseases such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, the Canadian Orthopaedic Association estimates six million Canadians suffer with bone and joint disorders, with a consequential $26 billion in societal costs.

These celebratory concerts represent the culmination of a dream to combat these diseases and injuries. Thousands of Albertans who suffer with diseases such as severe arthritis understand the vital link between research and the development of new clinical treatments. They believe passionately in the creation of a province-wide, high-quality system of public health care. And they believe that together we can continually make it better.

We’re pleased to do our part in supporting this vision, one that supports the bench to bedside work being conducted across our province—in universities, health-care clinics, research institutes and hospitals.

We’d like to invite you to review the enclosed materials and consider how you and your organization can support this vision—and enjoy a great evening of music from one of Canada’s up and coming jazz prodigies, Nikki Yanofsky. She will be joined by jazz legend Tommy Banks, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Music in Motion had its genesis in Calgary last year and has now expanded to include Edmonton. We’re very excited about that!

Your support will build on an unprecedented spirit of cooperation among the province’s surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, researchers, students and clinicians. Together, they are committed to building capacity and providing outstanding bone and joint health care for Albertans.

We look forward to seeing you on September 20th, in Calgary, at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, EPCOR Centre, or on October 2nd, in Edmonton, at the Enmax Hall, Winspear Centre. Both evenings promise to inform and entertain!

Sincerely,

Cathy Roozen
